Yes, I have been in contact with Khaled and when I asked him to tell me in detail how the bag was found, he confirmed the main points of your story.
He confirms that you were the first people to actually see the bag, but he states that everybody helped in finding all the contents of the bag and stopping the papers blowing away in the wind.
He confirms that you all agreed that he should take charge of the contents of the bag, with a view to finding the owner of the bag, Alexander Ross,if he was still alive. If he was not still alive, his family should be located and the contents of the bag turned over to them. To this end, Khaled was to take the bag to the British Embassy. Khaled states that he did contact the Embassy, but he could not find anyone there to take an interest in the contents of the bag, or to find the family of Alexander Ross. (This I can believe!) Khaled made his own enquiries (probably helped by Andras Zboray) and found the link to the sister of Alexander Ross.
As I stated before, the complete story will be made known when the BBC come to view the actual objects and letters themselves. The BBC producer has been ill, so there has been some delay in this. I have contacted Irene Porter and asked if it is OK for you to have her email address. She has agreed.....

Come promesso ecco la continuazione del "caso Ross". Ho scritto alla sorella Irene, ponendole una serie di domande. Per prima cosa ero molto curiosa di sapere se lei fosse venuta a conoscenza del come e perchè il fratello avesse perso il bagaglio e come si fosse mosso successivamente, privo di documenti, poi le ho chiesto se sapesse di un eventuale coinvolgimento di Alec, nelle comunicazioni del L.R.D.G., con Almasy, transitato nella zona neppure due mesi prima del suo passaggio. Ecco quanto mi è stato risposto:

Further to my recent e.mail.
I have read about Almasy. Iwould be most interested in your story of how you found my brother's bag etc. Alex (his name was Alexander, known to family and friends as Alec or Alex) and he must have been only 23-25 yrs when he was out in the desert.
We have also been wondering how he managed to carry on without his "dog tags" and his service book. As I said in my last e.mail he did not talk very much about his service. His mother regiment was the Royal Corps of Signals and he was a wireless operator and Despatch rider.
As you can imagine it was very emotional for me when I first saw the pictures of some of the items especially the letters which I wrote when I was only 8yrs old.
We are now trying to get a visa to enable Khaled Mackram to come to England and to bring the bags with him to hand over to me. Once this done I should be able to obtain more information from the Regimental Association
I will keep in touch with any further news.

beh....sono sconvolta!!! e furibonda.....

Bene, per modo di dire....ecco il "lieto fine" della storia la cui verità, nonostante le assicurazioni avute, è rimasta sepolta nel Sahara. A me non resta che la "soddisfazione" di vedere la faccia "commossa" di Kahled Makram che consegna le cose da noi raccolte e trattate con tanto rispetto e, lasciatemi dire, visto il finale,.....fessaggine! Sono contenta, ovviamente, perchè finalmente la sorella ha potuto riavere gli effetti personali del fratello e mi ha emozionato vederne l'espressione, ma mi rimane l'amarezza della disonestà mostrata nei nostri confronti. Non siamo neppure stati avvertiti che Kahled era in Inghilterra.
Posso non mettere in dubbio la bravura come guida di Kahled, ma, sicuramente, non posso dire che brilli in fatto di "lealtà" e onestà! Avvisati....a chi capiterà di andare in Egitto e dovesse avere la fortuna di trovare, come noi, qualche cosa di così strano e prezioso e avrà lui come guida,.....non glielo affidi, come purtroppo abbiamo fatto noi, mai come in questo caso vale il vecchio proverbio:
"chi vuole....vada, chi non vuole....mandi"!!!!!

I am so sorry that you are so upset.
The arrangements to have the bag brought over were taken out of my hands for which I was grateful for as I could not have funded the trip myself.
Khaled and Jeoff came to Burnley yesterday and I received the contents of my brothers bag. As you know the bag itself just fell to peices but the contents are in pretty good condition.
The local press and TV were present and an item was shown on local tv last evening and will be on BBC web site. bbc.co.uk/nwt. also articles in local press. My local museum wishes to display the items in an exhibition of ww1 and ww2 memorabilia in November of this year. Also the Royal Signals Regiment museum and the LRDG associaltion wish to display later. Then I will get everything back and will probably pass it all on to Alex's grandson.
There was in the bag a roll of film. This has now been printed off (thanks to Andras Zboray of FJ expeditions) by the Hungarian film archives. The pictures are mostly of Alex and his comrades in the desert so I will have them published by the LRDG association to see if any one (or their families) recognise the men.
Once again I thank you for the finding and your interest in all this and I wish you both well.
